Implantology mentorship
Frank Eickhoff has more than 20 years experience as an implantologist, he is a member of the Dutch Association of the Dental Implantology (NVOI) and he has studied and practiced as a dental technician.
It appears not suprising that in 2018 Implant College has asked Frank to become a mentor for those dentists who would wish to start up grafting implants. Following completion of theoretical and practical study at Implant College the dentists are offered mentorship and practical coaching during the start-up phase in their practices. Frank visits a cursist’s practice and provides support covering all necessary stages from the first consultation till the implanting. Frank answers questions of the cursist and provide he or her with practical tips:
- In which cases you can or cannot implant?
- What kind of instruments, materials and equipment are required?
- How does a quote for implant look like so it is clear for a patient?
- What is underlying risk of implant and how could you minimise it?
- In which cases you might need considering pre-implantological surgery such as sinus lift or jaw correction?
Over time, the practitioners become more skilled and self-assured, and mentorship can be phased out. It depends on particular mentoring project how long it takes while an ultimate goal is that newly-started implantologists are able to work independently and certainly. After mentorship completion, Frank remains at disposal of the dentists and their patients.
